Small is beautiful: Saturna brings the noise for Pull Together
A small island makes a big contribution!
Judith Rees-Thomas, Nancy Gerber, Dawn Woods, Annie Popperwell, and David Osborne decided to organize a Pull Together concert on Saturna Island to raise funds. The evening featured many talented performers on the island, including musicians, bands, spoken word poets and thespians. Bakers contributed cookies and snacks to the concession, and the venue was quickly filled with islanders in search of some entertainment for the cause.
When high school students from the Saturna Ecological Education Centre heard folks were organizing for Pull Together, they stepped in to ask how they could help. Taven Lopatecki and their peers decided to take the lead on a car wash fundraiser at the community Firehall, which turned into big community event. As this was the first ever car wash on Saturna Island in anyone’s memory, there was no shortage of automobiles in dire need of a bath!
The combined effort of these two events raised $2000.00 for Pull Together. On an island of less than 300 people, that’s some pretty big generosity! Way to go, Saturna!
