This is what we’ve been waiting for – court decision Thursday

The moment we’ve all been waiting for in this long fight against Kinder Morgan is coming this week.

This Thursday morning at 7:30 AM Pacific time, the Federal courts will announce the results of the many lawsuits challenging the approval of the Trans Mountain pipeline and tanker project.

This means that the verdicts for each of the nearly two dozen cases – challenging the flawed National Energy Board review process (including the omission of any review of the impacts to endangered Orca whales) and the inadequate consultation with First Nations, – will be announced, at the same time, early this Thursday.

It’s impossible to know what to expect, and various Nations and groups we collaborate with are making plans for all the possible scenarios.

What we do know are three simple things:

  • Indigenous rights have legal power, and many impacted Nations have not given their consent to Kinder Morgan’s pipeline

  • Whichever way the decisions go, there are likely to be appeals, taking this issue all the way up to the Supreme Court of Canada (and making Pull Together more needed than ever)

  • RAVEN, Sierra Club BC, and all our organizers and donors like you have made a commitment to our First Nations partners to go all the way. We won’t back down.

You can expect to see a few more emails from us this week. We know even though it’s almost the end of summer holidays, you care so much and will want to know the news and hear about any snap actions that are planned in response. We’ll update you as soon as we know more.
